Bacalhôa offers wines that truly represent Portuguese terroirs, grape varieties and wine styles. The history of the winery dates to the 1920s and has grown to present their own labels and quality line from Alentejo, Península de Setúbal, Bairrada, Beiras, Dão and Douro. They manage their own vineyards, are both an important employer and partner with local growers. The company breathed new life in the Setúbal peninsula when they took over an abandoned distribution centre in Azietão to develop their main winery home. A little known fact: the family of the main principal José Berardo are tremendous art lovers, and the Azietão winery facility is also home to public art galleries, including traditional Portuguese tile art as well as an impressive art deco collection (parts of which have been borrowed for use in the BBC Hercule Poirot films).
