There are few Brunello estates more universally respected as Le Potazzine. Their wines invariably offer up incredibly elegant expressions of time and place in vineyard, vintage and grape variety. Owner Gigliola Giannetti began her career working for Franco Biondi Santi, another revered producer. She then moved to acquire her own small vineyard plots in 1993 and 1996, the birth years of their daughters Viola and Sofia. “Le Potazzine” is the family nickname for the daughters. In the local dialect it refers to the small, lively, spirited birds that inhabit the countryside. Through traditional winemaking methods, native yeasts and a family twist of aging in Slavonian oak barrels for up to five years, this family creates wines that are amazing.
