Laurent Miquel represents the eighth generation of vine growers and winemakers in the western Languedoc, less than 150 kilometres north of the Spanish border. The family history of winemaking dates to 1791. Following almost 200 years of family winemaking. Laurent’s father Henri decided in the 1970s to explore the potential of a variety not traditionally planted here: Syrah. So novel was that approach that Henri became known in the region as “Mr. Syrah” – but the family has never looked back. In fact, they have explored working with the traditionally Spanish Albariño as well. Laurent has carved out a reputation for himself by respecting his family history, deliberately and vigorously using low-intervention approaches in both vineyard and winery. With top environmental certifications, sustainability practices, no use of animal by-products (vegan-friendly wines) and traditional French winemaking techniques, this family brings both authenticity and character to their ranges of wines.
