About the Producer
The Lingenfelder estate holds a long heritage in winemaking—dating more than 500 years with 14 generations of family wine growers and winemakers. This history has contributed to the family’s careful sensitivity toward environmental sustainability and to their commitment to quality. Rainer Lingenfelder has gained a wide reputation for stylish and elegant Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) and Pinot Gris (Grauburgunder) in addition to classic Riesling and Scheurebe wines. Rainer’s son Georg is taking on management from his father, continuing their three-cornered approach to quality: hand harvesting, natural fermentation and no fining agents on all estate wines. The Lingenfelder family is also close to the Jones & Company family: two of our staff (Gary Hewitt and Anton Sikorsky) have been able to work with the Lingenfelders. Gary worked in an extended winemaking internship in 2002, and Anton worked the harvest and winemaking in 2022.
Reviews & Notes
Sylvia Jansen
"Incredibly deep and full, this a wine to have a conversation about, not just over. The concentration and quality are completely in the Lingenfelder signature: balanced, harmonious and beautiful. Bring on food and friends."
Rick Watkins
"Wow! Not your tipical Pinot Gris. (Grauburgunder is the German name) Full-bodied and full of flavor. Citrus, peaches, apricot and a nice beam of acidity and a long. long finish. A beauty."
Gary Hewitt
"Deep gold and fully mature with honeyed-baked apple, faint lychee and a whiff of dried Chinese mushrooms; intense, round, almost viscous with walnut and marmalade notes that linger in the finish. Moderate acidity adds to the roundness. Best to drink over the next year at longest. Chicken breast with mushroom cream sauce; pate on crackers; onion tart. Very good. 2010 tasted 23 Nov 2013."
Anton Sikorsky
"Definitely a departure from your run-of-the mill Pinot Gris. This wine is full bodied, with ripe notes of peach, orange, and white flowers, backed by a bit of honey and beeswax. This wine is equal parts delicious and different, and is most certainly worth a try!"
