About the Producer
|
Less than 100 kilometres from Alpine peaks and the Austrian border, the vineyards of the Alto Adige hug the high-altitude slopes and are the foundation for the region’s celebrated wines. Erste + Neue (“First and New” in this German-first part of Italy) is one of Alto Adige’s quality-focused co-operatives. Erste + Neue formally began in 1986, but its three founding groups date to the early 1900s. The vineyards, owned by members, are spread over 470 hectares, but most members have about a hectare, making the wines truly personal projects. The overall focus is for authentic, artisanal wines that show the distinctive terroirs.

| Mike Muirhead "I'm coming around to the fresh fruity GluGlu wines that these regions are producing. This is Schivia (when was the last time you had a Schivia!!!) and it was wonderful. Fresh cranberry, flowering fruit, red flowers, with a medium light body and fresh finish. Picnic wine - has me thinking about a hike." | | Sylvia Jansen "A lovely ligh-bodied beauty. Served slightly chilled, set out a cheese tray; enjoy!" | | Gary Hewitt "Mountain wine. Light and fresh made from 100% Schiava, a widely planted indigenous grape of the Trentino-Alto Adige region in the foothills of the Italian Alps. Pale, juicy, redolent cherry raspberry flavours with very light tannins. A quaffing wine perfect for fondues/raclette, picnics, charcuterie, chicken or fish. Serve slightly chilled for best effect. (2017 tasted 10 Feb 2019)" |
