Claudio Fenocchio is the fifth generation to work the vineyards and make wine near Bussia in the wrinkled hills of Barolo. Their production is small; the winery building is tucked just across from the family home, these few modest buildings enjoying impressive views. The Fenocchio family have long practiced classic approaches, with organic farming, wild yeast fermentations in large Slavonian oak casks, and an unhurried pace of maturation for their revered plots of Nebbiolo. When winemakers everywhere, including Barolo, seemed to be embracing synthetic vineyard treatments, lavish new oak and extracted styles, the Fenocchio signature was set apart, expressing finesse and elegance. Today the Fenocchio wines are widely recognized among the best of Barolo producers, offering exciting expressions of their terroirs.
