A favourite of mine. This Vermentino is great now, and going to be great in a few more years as well. Lemon drop, waxy, complex palate that will gain some weight as it develops. Have a couple for now, a couple for later in the cellar.

Mike Muirhead added notes for Matsu El Recio.
Wow. Yummy. Had the best of old world complexity and new world fruit, with a healthy dose of vanilla from the American oak. A new favourite!

I tend to avoid Zin - bad choice, I forgot how diverse this grape can be. This new one from Lange Twins is right up my alley. A good balance of jammy fruit, and briary aromas. It had me dreaming of summer barbeques in our near future. Warming alc, but very balanced with velvety tannins.

Was lucky to have a tasting of some of Tuscany's best last night. Always showing at the top of their game the DCC Brunello was magnificent. Subtle cherry, leather, sinewy tannins, and a long finish that paired perfectly with my Braised Beef Gnudi. Going to put a couple of these in the cellar for a few years down the road.

Every once in a while you need to go back to the basics. This is one of our top selling Pinot Grigios, and I hadn't tasted it in eons. Good news, still great. Fresh melon, MacIntosh Apple, mouth watering, and a day like today, reminded me of summer.

A re-taste of the 2010 - now in its 7th year. I have started to not cellar a lot of Australian wine, I find the fruit doesn't change that much, and so there really is not much benefit. This one could change my mind. Showing some really great earthy, meaty notes, still chewy/chunky tannins and lots of length. Drink over the next year.

If you don't know the Beckstoffer name you should. They are the single biggest vineyard land owners in Napa, so they know what they are doing! Tuck Beckstoffer has created an rich and elegant Cabernet that really delivers for the price. If you want big Cali fruit - this is your new go to.

Mike Muirhead added a rating for Calzadilla Paysan.
For a guy who really isn't into Grenache, I am being proven wrong on almost a daily basis. This little gem from Calzadilla (my favourite new winery in 2014) is a great example of what a complex Grenache can be. Classic red cherry grenache notes, but an earthy texture, and persistent finish. A great new find for Chirstmas Turkey!!

I absolutely adore this wine. It is exactly what I love in white wine. Weighty (but without oak), rich, elegant, and a clean bright citrus finish. A great way to impress that certain #winenerd on our Christmas shopping list!

Fantastic Rioja - balanced oak, subtle fruit (cherry, black currant) and a really long finish. Had with charcuterie and was blown away with the balance.
